Maria Chiara de’ Nobili (DE/IT)
“[…] Maria Chiara de’ Nobili started with ‘Up the Slippery Slope’. The sound of rainfall emanated from the loudspeaker. […] The choreography centred around role clichés and how we deal with them. An umbrella provided protection, served as a hiding place, became an object of desire; the performers on stage froze and were warmed, and all was misty wet throughout.”
Anna Borràs (SE/ES)
“[…] Anna Borrà’s choreography in ‘Renfilats’ brought the dancers together, showed them cooperating, relying on each other, quite literally by carrying each other on their shoulders, becoming a human tower, growing together into a community and yet each one counting as an individual.”
Roberto Tedesco (IT)
“[…] We saw war and destruction, discord and accord, death and the demise of a community; people became ornaments, were mostly on the losing side in their struggle for individuality. First creeping and crawling on to the stage from among the audience, they soon fell into a marching rhythm that left little scope for personal touches.”

Three young choreographers, eight excellent contemporary dancers and a total of six weeks’ rehearsals in Hanover: These are the ingredients that go into the “Think Big” residency programme, organised in cooperation with the Hanover State Ballet. The residency gives young choreographers the opportunity to create new 20-minute ensemble choreographies and so gain initial experience of or improve their skills in the field of ensemble choreography. The upcoming artists participating in the current eighth edition are Italian-born, Germany-based Maria Chiara de’ Nobili, Sweden-based, Spanish-born Anna Borràs, and Roberto Tedesco from Italy. The jury – made up of guest juror Prof. Dieter Heitkamp, education director of contemporary and classical dance at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, ballet director in Hanover Marco Goecke and festival director Christiane Winter – selected these three young choreographers from over 130 applicants from Germany and abroad. With this programme, TANZtheater INTERNATIONAL provides a platform for three fresh productions and three different movement languages developed by the emerging generation of choreographers.
