TERMINAL BEACH

“[…] In the empty, white Orangerie Herrenhausen, Moritz Ostruschnjak [has set up] his Terminal Beach. The dancers run backwards a lot in this piece, as if trying to turn back time, to reach safety at past shores. […] Ostruschnjak’s world is full of quotes; the figures fail to really make contact, whether appearing with flags or on rollerblades, yet a strange poetry lies in all the images.”

People arrive at the terminal with new adventures in sight: Moritz Ostruschnjak’s “Terminal Beach” likewise opens a sea of possibilities: People meet, sail around each other, make common cause and drift apart again after apparently fleeting encounters. Munich-based Ostruschnjak, whose “AUTOPLAY”, a piece created from internet finds, thrilled the audience at last year’s festival, has selected a group of charismatic dancers to go with him on the hunt again. And he demands a lot from these six stranded actors: The choreography is fast forwarded and rewound, there are fictitious duels, flags waved in formation, and skating on rollerblades across the impressively deep stage area. All this is no problem with no further to go on the horizon yet so many stories still to tell. Stick together and keep on dancing is their motto. And when Satan appears, stay cool, shift closer and perform an elegant ballroom dance.
