"Urban Wolf" Yaron Shamir (DE/IL)
Press
“[…] For ‘Urban Wolf’, Yaron Shamir takes the isolation and alienation of the individual city-dweller as his theme. It opens with a female dancer, half-naked, exposed and vulnerable, facing a gang of characters in black suits. But she becomes part of a group, rolling and scrapping in the light of the stroboscope to Oliver Doerell’s associative music, like a litter of frisky young puppies. ‘Urban Wolf’ is truly compelling. "Cloudy Crowd" Chikako Kaido (DE/JP)
Press
“[…] In fascinating slow-motion, she [Chikako Kaido] conveys to the audience how energy flows through a group by gentle contact and apparently minimal shifts of weight, how it holds the group together and tears it apart as soon as one member collapses. Kaido finds concise images for those moments of crisis when society becomes too taxing. They reveal what might be happening on the inside when someone is trying to keep up appearances with a smile […].” Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung, 4 September 2012
"Exit" Philipp van der Heijden (DE/USA)
Press
“[…] The time of the piece […] is beat by the dancers sitting on the floor audibly breathing out syllables. The louder they get, the more the force of their breathing projects them forwards, gradually driving them across the whole of the stage. […] We see life’s most vital work, and its relentlessness becomes breathtakingly tangible. While the dynamic may vary, rest is impossible, not breathing is death. Van der Heijden’s idea is fascinatingly innovative and consistently realized. […]” Braunschweiger Zeitung, 3 September 2012
project description
2012 sees the launch of a residency programme co-organized by the Ballet of the Hanover State Opera and TANZtheater INTERNATIONAL: “Think Big” offers three young choreographers from across the country the opportunity to develop one ensemble production each in Hanover. With this project, begun in March this year, we aim to foster upcoming talents as well as to counteract the trend away from ensemble productions. The participating choreographers live in Hamburg, Düsseldorf and Berlin and created the pieces they are now showing with ensembles of ten dancers, especially casted for “Think Big”. By means of different approaches and working methods, three promising productions have thus been created. The audience this evening can expect some fresh ideas and an excellent ensemble.
