“[…] In ‘Everyness’, which opened the Tanztheater International festival in the Herrenhausen Orangerie, Sébastien Ramirez and Honji Wang highlight everyman’s preoccupation with finding their place in the complicated network of interpersonal relationships. Scenes of love and friendship are dissected into movements, making even hidden connections perceptible. This occurs in sudden moments of contact that transcend the official action of communication. […] Over it all, a balloon hangs resplendent like the moon, swinging magically over the dancers as they breathe rhythmically, or lying like ballast on their bodies, or pulsating up and down like a jellyfish. […] Generous applause for this strong opening.”

preview TEXT

Wang Ramirez stands for Honji Wang and Sébastien Ramirez, a choreographer duo with Korean-German and Spanish-French roots that harmonize and complement each other. Out of the urban dance styles, contemporary input and various other influences that have been brought to bear on their still young but meteoric career, they have developed a captivating, unique dance language that was enthusiastically received at their previous appearances at the festival. In “EVERYNESS”, a work for six dancers and a stage set element that seems to be alive, they approach the subject of intimacy from a variety of different perspectives. One of these features the use of ropes, opening up a surprising and very special view of togetherness, and freeing dance from the forces of gravity. In this way, they open up new spaces in order to explore through dance issues of human relationships and cultural identity – all spiced with a good pinch of humour, and carried by an exquisite lightness.
