“Pared-down elegance in every gesture, calm sensuality, nothing seems false. […]They wrestle gently with and for each other, carrying each other on their hands, creating intimate moments by simply placing a hand on a head; devotion, vulnerability, trust, estrangement – all is in a state of flux. Each person goes at some point, each comes back. […] Kvarnström condenses the stage space; most of the time the curtain is only two-thirds raised. It is not until the end that it is completely opened, a last note is sounded and the dancers fall to the floor - together. Unforgettable.”

preview TEXT
After some years working for theatres, Kenneth Kvarnström – a favourite of the festival – has returned to his roots in the independent scene. Now, in Hanover, he is presenting his work “Come back (to me)” with three of his charismatic dancers and two excellent musicians. Friction is created by the clash of opposites: ancient music meets dark punk, virtuoso dance meets spoken word and song, bright light meets deepest darkness. Closeness and distance, encounters and separations cause a build-up of tension which is vented in explosive solos, duets and trios. The dancers meet the challenge of Kvarnström’s movement cosmos with impressive ease. A hand gesture, a glance, a pause speak volumes, telling of desire and longing, trust and letting go. All the while, the theorbe lute and its modern cousin the electric guitar are played live, unfolding their tonal colours and entering into an intimate dialogue with the dancers.
