PRESS

“In this German premiere, Sébastien Ramirez and Honji Wang show a wealth of moving movement propositions. Not only physically, the two female dancers and three male dancers, including the two choreographers, explore borderlines […]. One gets […] the feeling that the dancers simply choose their own centres of gravity and exempt themselves from the law of gravity for the duration of the dance. It is fascinating, spectacular, and sometimes bordering on the acrobatic. But it remains dance because the spectacle is never an end in itself but embedded in a flowing whole, accompanied by atmospheric sound collages.”

preview TEXT

The young choreographic duo Sébastien Ramirez and Honji Wang conduct experiments at the very limits of the possible in their production “Borderline”. Even the laws of gravity do not seem to apply in this work for three dancers and the two choreographers, thus opening up unimagined possibilities. Ramirez and Wang have received several awards in recent years for their idiosyncratic work fusing contemporary dance and urban dance styles. Hailing from contrasting cultural backgrounds themselves, the two shooting stars are especially interested in cultural identity and in blurring the boundaries between inside and outside in order to open up new perspectives. “Borderline” makes a good start in this direction and, beyond its spectacular moves, gives the audience something to think about and will certainly leave it wanting more.
