The 28th edition of TANZtheater INTERNATIONAL saw the festival on top form again and playing to sold-out theatres. From 29 August to 7 September 2013, the city of Hanover greeted the dance world at a total of eleven events held in venues filled to 97% capacity. Dance companies and organisers alike were delighted at the audiences’ enthusiasm and the high level of media coverage of this year’s dance fest.
Representing the international contemporary dance scene in Hanover were eight dance companies and the three choreographers taking part in the “Think Big” 2013 Resident Artists’ Programme. This year’s thematic focus was observations on social interaction from the choreographers’ different perspectives. The works presented were bang up to date both in terms of content and formally speaking – a total of five of the guest productions had never been shown in Germany before. What’s more, the three choreographies resulting from the Resident Artists project received their world premieres at the festival. Another focus in 2013 was work by artists based in France, though guest artists also appeared from Switzerland, Germany and Sweden.
As in previous years, TANZtheater INTERNATIONAL 2013 provided insight into important developments on the contemporary dance scene and in the movement languages of both established and upcoming talents. This year for the first time, alongside the dance performances, the public was invited to take part in a workshop as well as daily art actions by Hanover’s “kunst.handlung” held before each performance.
Here you will find press reviews, synopses and casts & credits on each of the performances (please click on the production titles below).
