That was TANZtheater INTERNATIONAL 2012

The 27th edition of TANZtheater INTERNATIONAL in Hanover was a great success with the public and the media. The festival’s daily performances, from 30 August to 8 September, were all attended by roughly 95% capacity audiences. Every one of the guest ensembles received enthusiastic applause and the response from the press was also very positive.

The festival featured 13 different productions dealing with questions of urban life and the aesthetics of everyday life. International choreographers based in, or with roots in, Belgium, Germany, France, Spain, Israel, the USA and Japan presented their ideas in Hanover, creating a forum for communication on contemporary issues. A major feature of the programme and special point of interest for the public was the encounter of contemporary dance with hip hop in all shapes and forms.

In this way, the festival provided interesting and varied insights into the trends and developments on the contemporary dance scene today.
In addition to the featured dance works, a talk was also held to discuss the current relationship between ‘popular’ and ‘artistic’ dance.

Here you will find press reviews, synopses and casts & credits on each of the performances (please click on the production titles below).
